Opinions on object oriented programming

I started programming with BASIC. My programming skills evolved into OOP as my programs became larger.

First I started to use a Labeling Rule to group constructs together by label. This made it easier to organize and recognize the purpose of construct in the code.

Second, I began to separate the groups into individual files. "Bot Stuff" goes into the "Bot" File, "RayGun Stuff" goes into the "RayGun" File.

Then I found Types. Types solved a lot of problems and used the Labeling Rule by default. Types only handled variables and arrays, I still employed the labeling rule for functions.

Before I realized it, I was coding BASIC in a Object-based manner. Once I was made aware this, I picked up a book on C++ and OOP.

At first, Abstraction, Encapsulation, Inheritence, and Polymorphism were a tad too tough to grasp. But, as I continued program using my home-made Object-Based techniques, the concepts began to take shape for me.

I've have worked around OOP for so long, that I have adopted the use of many other programming techniques: Object-based,Relational Key-based, and Prototype-based. In some cases these other techniques are more efficient then OOP.

Object-based programming becomes a logical means organizing code into objects. Relational Key based Programming becomes a logical means of linking the objects together by ID Keys. Protoytype-based programming becomes a logical means of creating new objects from a template.

I still use my Labeling Rules to keep code readible.
