DoctorWho, I had the same problem with regard to the greyed out attachments. I use Outlook Express 6 which I assume you are also. The solution below is curtesy of my wife.
In Outlook express you need to go to Tools/Options/Security Tab. Once there you need to untick "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus". Then apply, come back out go back in and, with a bit of luck, filax's attachments will be available to you.
