Freborg, here's a suggestion which a lot of max users will absolutely love!

B3D Pipeline is essential for exporting scenes from max. There is nothing close to it. We have complete control over all the settings etc, for example multitexturing, shininess... and detail maps. *But* there one really cool extra.

He has something called pipeline extensions. What happens here is, when the scene is exported, he converts all the lights and settings into pivots and stores them in the b3d file. If you were to parse these - we would never need to add or position a light again! all we would need to do is go through the scene and tweak them one by one! Supported lights are omni, directional... and so forth. Perhaps you can talk to pudding@... about this? I'm sure it'll increase Gile[s]'s appeal ten fold!

If you added currently-selected lightmap rendering (for selective testing) with the above, then we could end up with a commercial-quality powerful max to game pipeline!

Count me in as a potential customer (& beta tester too if you need one!) edit: email corrected!
