Yeah - bit of a shame that. You could always use Renoise for making mod-sounding mp3s and oggs and whatnot (generally tracker produced music has a 'feel' that seems to be a part of how it's produced) - it really does sound nice. :o)
For saving as MOD, XM etc I've just tripped over a new(ish) one in development called Skale Tracker ( http://www.skale.org ). It's still in beta, but it's freeware and it's looking special. Then there's Modplug Tracker, Mad Tracker etc etc - but I'm sure you already know about these - all of a high quality.
