Getting it now, sounds cool.

Someone should suggest a "swap UVs" to Brad Bolthouse, so that you can swap the one you are working on with the background one.
There's a Copy UVSets from 1 > 2 or 2 < 1, but not a swap as far as I can tell.
You loose the one you copy to...
