I don't know if this will help but I did do a Creating A simple Tile Map tutorial on www.BlitzCoder.com in the articles sections

Thing is though at present Blitz Coder is off line at the moment whilst they upgrade to a new server

Also I helped some one else out recently with the similar topic in the beginner area "using gif animations" (something like that)
